How to recognize signs of appendicitis
If the infected appendix isn’t removed, it can burst and spread bacteria and infection throughout the abdomen and lead to serious health problems. The most common acute condition leading to abdominal surgery, appendicitis can be difficult to pinpoint because signs of appendicitis can vary widely and may occur with other disorders. The causative agents include foreign bodies, trauma, intestinal worms, lymphadenitis, and most commonly calcified fecal deposits known as appendicoliths or fecaliths.
If symptoms of abdominal pain continue for more than four hours, an urgent medical evaluation should be performed at the health care practitioner’s office or a hospital’s emergency department. People who have special conditions may not experience the classic symptoms of appendicitis and just having a general feeling of being ill and unwell.
